Creating alchemy for 2022: Finding a new way for the New Year!

I know I can safely say I am not the only person to think that ending the messy, complicated, even horrible year that 2021 was a (HUGE) relief.

Even though it is just a simple reprieve, the sharp change in year feels necessary and essential in a long year, one that remained relentless with COVID news.

Not that I really feel that 2022 will be any different.

I know for a fact that it won't be - but it will enable me to be a bit more pragmatic about what needs to happen in my life, after seeing a year of change that in many ways were good but that didn't necessarily make things better for me.

Like all things when we want them - be careful what you wish for!

I am indeed grateful for having got through the year without anyone significantly sick with COVID (though truthfully I was sick much of the year) and had heaps of new issues that seemed inevitable during a pandemic.

But truthfully the pandemic seems to have got me thinking about the big things in life and the seemingly meaningless aspects of life that I and everyone maybe worries too much about.

Things matter but sweating the small stuff too much is just a waste of life too... so in the spirit of all the things that COVID taught me, here is a small list of things that might help you in 2022:

1. Learn about yourself first

Before going on a crazy diet or gym explosion, listen to your habits. Most people WON'T change overnight (including you!) so be realistic about what you can do and do the best you can without busting a gut. Ease into your BIG change and work towards goals, not power into them. Changing your habits is a marathon, not a sprint.

2. The New Year is a NEW start but prioritise staying well

A New Year is a new start but changing everything in the middle of a pandemic is not ideal. Also note: getting sick is not what you want in the middle of a pandemic - this is when you want to be healthy and staying healthy. The health system is already under pressure, no one should put it under more strain. Do exercise, eat well, sleep well and stay motivated - we must all get through this moment.

3. Worry about COVID, take precautions - but do what you MUST do to stay well

We are all worried about COVID nearly all the time so do what you must do to stay well! Take your medication, take precautions, book in your booster shot and keep the bad spirits at bay but keep on staying well. If this means going to the occasional massage or doctor's appointment - so be it. This is how it is and we must all do our best to stay well in the long term.

4. Try to actively steal happiness as much as possible

There is so much doom and gloom out in the world at the moment that it can be hard to keep up with it all, so while it may be hard to do at times, try to stay happy as much as possible. And while it may not be easy either - try occasionally to keep others happy as much as possible. It may not be easy to see everyone you want to - with much of Melbourne in a kind of self imposed lockdown state anyway (at the moment) but there can be no doubt that people will take much joy in any extra delights that come their way!

2022 may be a year with a hell of an introduction, but there's no reason why we can't try to make it as happy, effective, healthy and a relatively pleasant a year as you've ever had!

And no one will ever complain about that!

Don't let hard times steal your goals for 2022!

Make this year - the year that makes you!

Best for 2022!
