Cult films in Melbourne have a new home with the opening of Brunswick’s own Cult Cinema and Bar, located at the Mechanics Institute on Sydney Road.
Open for all of November, the unique movie experience is a result of a partnership with City of Moreland and Next Wave Festival, and offers a seriously diverse range of films, with ‘cult classics’ mixed in with arthouse and themed food and drink to complement the cinematic experience.
“At CULT we’re trying to give our audience exactly what we want from a cinema experience. We’ve programmed the type of films that make you immediately rally your crew and book tickets for a fun catch up or a boozy night out.
It’s an idea that we’ve been wanting to bring to life for a few years now and we’re so excited to make it happen this November,” says co-founder, Niama Wessely of CULT.
Week 1 Screenings
CULT has organised for a quintessentially Melbourne food experience to go the Saturday nights in the month, with eateries and restaurants chosen to match the movie themes on show. Featuring food trucks (or stands) like Mr Burger, Bluebonnet Barbecue, S.P.Q.R. Pizza, Los Hermanos Mexican Taqueria, Host and Piccolina Gelateria, there will be food for all tastes.
CULT has also teamed up with key distilleries and breweries from Melbourne (and as far as Mexico) to enhance the experience and add another layer to the films they are showing in their event program.
