Melbourne will be emblazoned next week with beginning of Chinese New Year with vibrant cultural performances, activities, costumes, cuisines and more. Starting on Friday 24 January to Sunday 9 February, the New Year - the Year of the Rat -  will see lively festivities held across the city at some of Melbourne’s most treasured landmarks including Queensbridge Square, Melbourne Museum, Docklands Harbour and more.

Highlights of the festival will include:

  • The opening ceremony and New Year’s Day celebrations at Queensbridge Square on 24 January.

  • The highly anticipated annual Lunar New Year Dragon Boat Festival at Docklands on 8 & 9 February.

  • Family Day at Queen Victoria Market with plenty of food stalls offering delicious traditional dishes on 26 January.

  • Family Day at Melbourne Museum with cultural performances and plenty of activities for all ages!
