For those lucky enough to attend the recent performance of Le Sacre – the sensational collaboration between students from National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) and the Australian Ballet School (ABS) – Company 18 offers another opportunity to experience the amazing talents of the graduates from NICA’s 2018 Bachelor’s degree.
While previously the performance of Le Sacre facilitated artistic synergies between the dynamic performance of the NICA students and the simplicity of the classically trained students from the ABS, Company 18 carries on a much older tradition of ‘apprenticeships’. Pairing these graduates with seasoned industry professionals and world-class circus artists aims to create a unique program based on the very best in the ‘circus arts’.
Under the tutelage of the likes of François-Eloi Lavignac (Australian Ballet), Hayden Spencer (Cirque du Soleil), Carita Spencer, Tim Rutty (Gravity Dolls) and trapeze artist Helene Embling, the performance showcases a cosmic array of amazing physical feats from whirling cartwheels, swinging trapeze, mesmeric hula hoops, foot juggling and heart-stopping aerial rope tricks to the challenging ‘hair hanger’ performed by Zoe Marshall.
The Company 18 show will be hosted by Jan van de Stool, Australia’s favourite Dutch/Australian musical therapist whose talents will augment those of these NICA emerging circus stars with her mischievous comedy, music and vocals.
For a night of breathtaking physical prowess, theatrical madness and comedic mayhem all under an imaginary circus “big top”, grab your rickets for Company 18 on their website here.
