After a devastating bushfire season, Victorian creatives, have come together in all their varied glory to fundraise and support the bushfire affected communities in a number of ways. Here is a list of activities organised for the bushfire relief:
Visual art and craft fundraisers
Art Aid For Gippsland: Gippsland Art Gallery Gippsland Art Gallery will hold a fundraising auction on Sunday 15 March. All money raised will be donated to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund (GERF).
Craft Victoria Craft Victoria have set up an information hub to share the various fundraising activities taking place to support bushfire affected communities.
Clay for Australia (Online): artist Vipoo Srivilasa A promotion of works for sale by clay artists with all profits from sales will be donated to WIRES (Wildlife Rescue Emergency Fund) and Foodbank Australia.
Art Schools for Fire Relief Margaret Lawrence Gallery (in collaboration with artists from Deakin University, Monash University, RMIT University and VCA: University of Melbourne) has donated artwork by some of Australia’s leading artists for sale. with proceeds to bushfire relief.
Towards Regrowth: Sutton Gallery This 3-day, artist-led exhibition will include works by more than 30 Sutton Gallery artists and invited guests. 100% of proceeds from artwork sales and all cash donations collected at the opening reception will be donated to Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria (VFBV) and Firesticks Alliance Indigenous Corporation.
Sundown at McClelland: McClelland Sculpture Park & Gallery A music and art event with local food and picnics, a lantern workshop and music, with all funds to be donated to Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund (GERF).
Gasworks Farmers Market: Gasworks Arts Park Resident artists will host a pop-up exhibition/open studio in conjunction with the Gasworks Farmers Market. All artworks will be discounted and 50% of sales from each artwork will be donated to Wildlife Victoria.
Coffin Rides: Simon Zoric, Gertrude Glasshouse Raising funds to help koalas and other native animals injured or displaced by recent fires. All takings from drinks sold at the event will go to Wildlife Victoria’s Bush Fire Appeal.
Bushfire Relief Effort: Guest Work Agency All proceeds from new Guest Club membership subscriptions received in January will be donated to the Firesticks Alliance Indigenous Corporation campaign to support cultural fire and land management practice.
Australian Bushfire Fundraising Print Sale: Jacquie Manning 100% of the proceeds from print sales will go towards the Rural Fire Service and The Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities GoFundMe.
Architecture and design
The Australian Institute of Architects has co-ordinated a register of over 450 architectural practices willing to work pro bono (free) to assist people who have lost their homes and community assets (i.e. shops, halls, churches or theatres). An additional 1200 students and graduates of architecture have registered to help. Assistance may vary, from simple advice to full design and planning services.
Design donated Over 150 interior designers have offered pro bono assistance to people trying to rebuild their homes and lives through this program. Assistance could include initial advice, floor plan analysis and development, “Pre-start” selections (guiding clients to select colours, materials and fixtures etc.).
Music fundraisers, benefit concerts and support services
Bushfire Benefit Gig Guide: Music Victoria A comprehensive guide to concerts and events raising money to support fire relief charities.
Mental health support - Support Act Support for artists and music workers of all kinds including singers, songwriters, composers, musicians, roadies, techies, managers, staffers and others.
Pause on licence fees - One Music An initiative to pause music licensing activity for OneMusic customers in bushfire declared natural disaster zones.
Music benefit events - APRA A list of music events across Australia in support of bushfire relief.
Sound Relief An upcoming major concert to raise funds for bushfire affected communities - details to come.
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is dedicating its first Sidney Myer Free Concert on February 5 to people affected by bushfires.
Bushfire Charity Opera More than 50 of Victoria’s leading singers and musicians are coming together in this performance to support bushfire relief.
Wildlife Relief at the JazzLab On 2 February 2020 Melbourne’s jazz community will get together to raise funds for wildlife adversely affected by Victoria’s catastrophic bushfires. The lineup represents a broad cross section of Melbourne’s stylistically diverse jazz scene and will be an absolutely fantastic day of music.
