Few events embrace winter and all its mystery like DARK MOFO, Hobart’s midwinter festival on from 7- 24 June 2018.
Featuring the theme of Dark and Dangerous Thoughts, this festival puts you on notice that you will have your limits of art or freedom of expression pushed out, expanding your understanding towards literature, film and the arts.
Hosted by Mona, the Museum of Old and New Art, DARK MOFO examines the centuries old rituals and the links between ancient and contemporary mythology, humans and nature, darkness and light, birth, death and renewals.
DARK MOFO embraces a broad range of art mediums like film, art, performance and music, offering a three-week showcasethat expands people’s understanding of what and how art can be. DARK MOFO is renowned as a festival that values independent thinking.
This year’s highlights include Tim Minchin (sold-out), Marlon Williams, Hymns to the Dead event (extreme black metal music from around the world) and a range of controversial artists alongside unique DARK MOFO events like Winter Feast, Night Mass, and many others. DARK MOFO also has a range of free events on offer.
