It could be argued that nothing has ever brought Shakespeare to life in Melbourne has much as the new Globe Pop-up theatre.
True to the way that Shakespeare saw his theatre delivered during his lifetime, Melbourne’s new Pop-up Globe mimics the similar real-life experience of the world of cabaret came alive in the famous Speigeltent erected at the Arts Centre, and rollicking Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance version on the sailing ship Polly Woodside.
Now the Globe Pop Up Theatre follows this tradition of giving audiences a ‘fully immersive experience’ of theatre as it would have been lived by audiences of Shakespeare’s over four hundred years ago.
The pop-up Globe, the world’s first full-scale temporary working replica of one of the greatest theatres in history will soon pop-up right next door to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl with showcasing all the drama of epic battles, comedy, special effects, elaborate costumes and thrills of Shakespearian drama.
In effect, the original Globe Pop-up, which was built in 1599 and which needed to be built in1613, is considered one of the most famous and important theatres in history. If you’re interested in knowing more about the history behind creating Pop-up Globe click here.
