With a hint of spring in the air, what better way to kick off the Summer Season than to head down the coast to Lorne for the Lorne Festival of Performing Arts?
Kicking off with Opening Gala at 7.30pm on Friday night at the Cumberland Lorne (Louttit Bay room) featuring a “taste” of shows from across the festival. Pre-show drinks are available from 6.30pm and, for those feeling peckish, Mezze plates can be ordered too!
A fantasy musical The Vegetable Plot – Songs of Love and Peas invites families to experience what happens when vegetables are transformed by aliens in super-beings – scheduled ideally for the young ones (or those young at heart?) during the day on Saturday and Sunday at the Cumberland Lorne.
Acts of Absurdity: A circus, magic and comedy spectacular presents an eclectic mix of magic, amazing physical feats and clowning -all tied up in a musical “bow” – on Saturday at 11.30 am at the Lorne Hotel. But visitors can also enjoy this random creative mayhem in daily pop-up free performances in the streets of Lorne from 5pm Friday and Saturday, and Sunday from 10am.
And for those night owls wanting some layback late-night entertainment, then head down to Lorne Central for some Piano Bar style music and song with Trevor Jones on Thursday and Friday, and with Matthew Hadraft on Saturday - from 8pm till late.
As a grand finale to the weekend, nothing could be better than savouring a relaxed lunch on Sunday afternoon in the Beer Garden at the Lorne Hotel with a smorgasbord of yet undiscovered talent performing during the Open Mic session, from 1pm onwards. Gold coin donation on entry.
