The Melbourne Fringe Festival is on again - from the 13 – 30 September - delivering one of the most diverse selection of arts and performance seen in Melbourne.
Offering an 18-day celebration of independent art, presenting 444 genre defying events in 160 different venues across Melbourne. This year’s festival theme asks – Are You Game? Imagining the city as a playground and art playground for all, the festival celebrates a diverse program of events and performances across all artforms imaginable.
Diversity is key at this year’s Fringe Festival, with a fantastic 775 LGBTIQ+ artists and 198 artists identifying as deaf or with disability, in performance. Gender equality is also a focus with 1780 female artists presenting work, in contrast to 1442 male artists.
One Fringe show to feature is F*ckboys – the Musical. Making its International Debut, and winner of the Critics’ Choice Award at the Orlando Fringe Festival in 2018, this is a one-act, original musical and dramatic comedy.
Centred on four women who will teach you the skills you need to take down the most dangerous predators plaguing the modern dating scene – the F*ckboy – this is a wild ride of advice, music and redemption, all in one.
Written and directed by Savannah Cassidy Pedersen, F*ckboys the Musical takes a pointed look at how today’s social atmosphere has always been driven by the ever-present douche of a human being: the F*ckboy.
“This show is meant to be a satirical take on modern dating,” says Ms Pederson, ‘like How I Met Your Mother, Friends, or Sex and the City, but it’s also a real account of how my life was changed after a breakup. Any woman who has had their heart broken, or knows someone who has, needs to see this show. It isn’t merely a comedy, it’s a redemption story.”
