Animation is no longer the realm of children with the Melbourne International Animation Festival opening today.
Showcasing the best of new and classic animation emerging in Australia and abroad, this eight-day festival is being held at ACMI in Federation Square.
More than 50 screenings and 450 films will screen, with an average of 10-12 films to view per screening. The Official Opening screening- Australia Showcase will feature 14 short animations.

The festival features a range of different animation categories, including International premieres, Australian student showcase, historical animations, women animators, Best of Next series, black and white, Winnipeg Film group showcase, among others.
The festival’s varied films will demonstrate the versatility and scope of animation to work in the digital realm, often combining artwork and sound to bring new understanding of animation to its audience. The festival hosts several fascinating historical and curated animation programs.
