Celebrating one of the least expensive seafoods available, mussels, the Portarlington Mussel Festival embodies some of the best traits of a regional festival - community-minded it is entirely run by a team of dedicated volunteers and today has more than 30,000 visitors attend the event.
Held over one day, Saturday 11 January, the festival began as a way to celebrate and promote the local mussel industry but has since grown to into one of the most popular community festivals in Victoria with over 30,000 visitors.
For a very reasonable $5 entry fee (cash donation) the festival provides a full day of activities including; live music over three stages, mussels cooked in a variety of styles, kids activities, cooking demonstrations, art & photo exhibitions, classic car displays, beer and wine tasting and more than 200 market stalls.
Situated against the picturesque Portarlington beach, this one-day festival is the perfect reason to explore the Bellarine Peninsula this summer.
