For any of us who have dreamed about lacing up our tap shoes, donning a top hat, and ‘Putting on the Ritz’, the Australian Tap Dance Festival is for you! This four-day tap dancing extravaganza will be held from 1 – 4 October at Chapel Off Chapel in Prahran.

Events to be held during the four days include:

Day 1: Tap Dance Q & A

1 October 2017 Time: 6.30pm Duration: Act 1: 45 minutes (20 minute interval) Act 2: 45 minutes

The line-up for this live Q & A session features some of the Australian Tap Dance Festival local and international artists who have danced on stage, TV and big screen. The session covers all the questions about tapping (but were afraid to ask?) including what made them choose their career in dance, how they got started, and what drives and inspires them. A fascinating insight into the “lives and loves” of these intrepid “hoofers”

Day 2: Tap To the Future

2 October Time: 6.30pm Duration: Act 1: 50 minutes (20 minute interval) Act 2: 30 minutes

A real tap-dancing smorgasbord of styles, talents and performers, this session will showcase a variety of tap dance styles and offers the audience a chance to see what’s happening now in Tap in Australia & New Zealand.

Day 3: Rhythm Creations

3 October Time: 6.30pm Duration: Act 1: 50 minutes (20 minute interval) Act 2: 50 minutes

Backed by live Jazz musicians, performers will "strut their stuff" on the dance floor in this improvisation session. The audience can just sit back and "feel the rhythm" but the more adventurous are invited to join in and experience the energy and freedom of expression through improvisation.

Day 4: Cutting Contest – A Tap battles

4 October Time: 6.30pm Duration: Act 1: 30 minutes (20 minute interval) Act 2: 30 minutes

In this battle of the “tappers”, dancers will improvise against an opponent and judged on their timing, musicality, sound, originality and style. There will be 3 divisions – under 12, 13 – 18 year olds, and adult division.

Come along and discover the charm and talent of Australia’s Tap Dance Festival!
