Dinner Plain Alpine Village has announced a unique lighting extravaganza to welcome guests back this summer from 23 December to 2 January.

The event will be a 10-day tourist attraction for visitors to the alpine region across the Christmas holiday period.

The Dinner Plain Festival Of Light is a 10-day celebration of the High Country, emphasising the village’s unique connection with the alpine landscape.

Highlighting the historic snowgums and distinctive architecture of Dinner Plain, the expansive area spanning the village entrance roundabout and recreation zone, will be transformed each evening into an interactive lighting extravaganza. Spectacular lighting effects and structures will operate amongst the trees and high country huts in a visual feast for visitors to experience and explore.

The event’s design and effects have been planned in conjunction with RTR Productions, drawing on their considerable experience in production of White Night events in Melbourne and Regional Victoria. The Dinner Plain Festival Of Light is expected to bring a similar level of anticipation and excitement to the North East region when it operates between December 23, 2020 and January 2, 2021.

The Dinner Plain Festival Of Light will replace the fireworks and public party events usually seen at Dinner Plain on New Year’s Eve.

The Festival Of Light is unlike anything ever seen in the High Country, we’re really excited to see such a unique event land this Christmas and New Year’s period. It takes the previous one-night attraction of fireworks and replaces it with something we think will be just as spectacular, and runs for a full 10 days. The great element is that it encourages self-exploration in a large outdoor area where social distancing will always be possible,” said Alpine Shire Council, Dinner Plain Marketing and Events Officer Nathan Fenton. The event has been specifically designed to provide a suitable replacement for these public events that prioritises public safety and COVID-19 compliance.

“When the sun goes down, Dinner Plain will be lit up into something completely unrecognisable to those who have known the village for decades. This will be an unmissable grand attraction, for visitors, residents and those in Bright and the valleys as well. We’re excited to show off Dinner Plain to locals and visitors alike.”
