NGV’s Triennial exhibition today opens today with the ambitious goal of surveying the world of art and design, through the eyes of more than 100 artists and designers from 32 countries.
Regarded a celebration of contemporary art and design practice, the prolific exhibition spans four levels of the Gallery’s International building and gives a rich array of programs of artists from around the world.
Offering works from such talents as Yayoi Kusama, Ben Quilty, Einat Amir, and countless others, the exhibition enables visitors to look at the new expressions of art being produced around the world. The exhibition hosts art in forms like architecture, animation, performance, new technologies, film, painting, drawing, fashion design, tapestry and sculpture, giving a glimpse of the work of a diverse group of artists.
One such work is by Jerusalem-born artist Einat Amir’s Coming Soon Near You work which places the audience as part of the art in a live installation. In this, the artist has made a living room where visitors are invited to bring their own DVD to watch live on TV in the exhibition’s space.
Another Triennial artist is Dutch Art collective, We Make Carpets, which will show mural sized displays and interactive installations, ideal artwork for children and families. Offering a gallery space that gives a visual feast and that encourages young people to engage with the material world – it works on getting everyday items such as sponges and Velcro into the artspace.
Offering an endless range of new artists and works, Triennial is a one exhibition not to be missed – see it at NGV International from 15 December to 15 April 2018.
